Blaire Fleming, a volleyball player for San Jose State, had 15 hits in Saturday’s game. This brought her season total to 252.
A player gets a kill when their attack can’t be returned by the other team and scores a point. Some people might not think that 252 kills is a big deal, but she has done it even though 7 teams have gave up on her Spartans. And the reason they give, if they give one, is that they think Fleming is transgender.
They have only been made this year, though. A lot of news places keep writing about it, but they won’t call Fleming by her name; they just call her a “trans player.” People talk about how tall she is, how strong she is, and how scary she looks.
Sad to say, many of them say she looks “manly.” A wise person once said, “the story sells.” So they get hits and ads whether the story is true or not.
Fleming is a senior who has a redshirt. He used to play at Coastal Carolina before going to the Left Coast. Aldie, Virginia, is a small town about an hour’s drive east of Washington, D.C., where she’s from.
With 266 kills in a single season, she set the school record for most kills in a season and in a match at John Champe High School. Since 2022, she’s been with the Spartans and done a great job.
In the past, no one ever said she was trans. No one said anything until this year, when the whispers began. A lot of people say she’s good because she’s really a man, but if that’s true, she wouldn’t be in the top 50 in the NCAA in kills, would she?
There are 549 points for the winner, but no one says she is a man. Even though Fleming is 6 feet 1 inch tall, there are many volleyball players on her team who are bigger.
Because men’s volleyball nets are 7 1/2 inches higher, the media accuses her of taking advantage of the smaller net. Again, why doesn’t she lead the NCAA? She wouldn’t be in first place in the league in wins even if she hadn’t been hurt (she missed a few games) and the 7 teams hadn’t given up.
Behind the scenes, there is a lot of trouble, and the team is doing its best to keep it from affecting the girls on the team and the school. These rumors keep getting spread by the mass media without any proof. Neither Fleming nor her family has ever said it.
There is no proof on her birth record that she is not a woman. Plus it’s rude to say she looks like a man. People don’t always realize that the hateful things they say about others can hurt them very badly, both mentally and physically.
As long as there isn’t any proof other than internet rumors, leave her team alone and let Miss Blaire Fleming do well at the game she enjoys.
