A Florida postal worker was caught on video throwing away a mail-in vote and hundreds of election mailers in the woods.
Florida Politics reported that the incident was made public on Tuesday when Ottis Nicole McCoy Jr.’s delivery habits raised red flags when he finished a run much earlier than planned.
Someone who worked at Cummings Contract Delivery Service Corp. and helped McCoy load the mail before his route told their boss about this. This made McCoy’s boss look at his GPS plan and see that he hadn’t actually stuck to the path.
“McCoy may have thrown away U.S. mail instead of delivering it to the right places.” It was clear to P.K. that McCoy had a lot of U.S. mail to deliver on October 22, 2024.
This was noticed by P.K. because he helped McCoy load the 2018 White Nissan NV200 Van when McCoy got to work in the morning. “Later, he saw that McCoy had finished his route earlier than planned,” court papers said.
After the crime was found, a neighbor who had recorded McCoy throwing away the mail in a wooded area gave the video to the police.
McCoy is now being charged by the federal government with throwing away about 1,000 pieces of mail, some of which were important voting materials.
The Orange County Elections Supervisor, Glen Gilzean, told the public that everyone who needs to will get their mail-in votes in time for the election.
“Seeing vote-by-mail ballots thrown away on the ground is very scary.” “However, we are thankful that the US Postal Service and U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg from the Middle District of Florida acted quickly,” Gilzean said.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that every impacted Orange County voter receives their vote-by-mail ballot in time so that every voice can be heard in this historic election.”
