The Sun Devils beat San Jose State 82-68 on Wednesday night thanks to 20 points from Terrence Williams II, 14 points from Wesley Yates III, and 12 points from other players.
Matt Knowling scored 12 points for USC (4-1) by making 5 of 6 shots. He also grabbed 8 rebounds and gave out 5 assists.
Josh Uduje made 5 of 5 3-point shots and scored 23 points for San Jose State (1-4), making 8 of 12 shots total. Will McClendon scored 18 points, including 4 3s.
Williams made a three-point play to give USC the lead for good. This was part of a 13-2 run that ended with Williams making a jump shot with 7:50 left in the first half to make it 23-18.
With 2:55 left in the half, Latrell Davis made a 3-pointer that cut SJSU’s lead to 33-31. But the Trojans scored nine of the next 11 points, with Williams scoring four, before Robert Vaihola made a layup for the Spartans to make it 42-35 at halftime.
Early in the second half, USC scored 10 straight points. Knowling’s jumper in the paint with 15:59 left made it 52–37, and USC led by 10 points the rest of the way.
In the second half, the Trojans made 32 of 56 shots (57%) from the field and 10 of 22 shots (45%) from 3-point range. They shot 62% (16 of 26) from the field.
