A hazmat response was prompted in Redwood City Friday due to a leaking hydrochloric acid tank.

(KRON) — The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department said Monday that a hazmat reaction was sent to Redwood City on Friday because of a 100-gallon tank of hydrochloric acid that was leaking.

As per the authorities, about 3 to 5 gallons of the corrosive acid leaked from the tank, ran into a nearby parking lot, and gathered on the asphalt. The fire department did not say where the accident happened in Redwood City.

The Redwood City Fire Department and the SMCFD Hazardous Materials team went to the scene of the leak and took steps to make it safer. Photos from the scene of the accident show a liquid trail coming from a shed that stores dangerous materials and has a big tank inside.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that hydrochloric acid is irritating and can burn people who come into touch with it. It doesn’t catch fire.
