NEW YORK, Fla. Yesterday, Orange Avenue was blocked off with barricades. This week, that won’t be the case.
This weekend, downtown Orlando is full of people going to big events like the Electric Daisy Carnival.
“It’s great when the DJ just does his thing up there.” “There’s just a good vibe around,” said Hector Durazo, who lives in Houston, Texas.
An event with Justin Timberlake was going on nearby at the Kia Center.
“Well, we love Justin Timberlake, and the Kia Center is great,” Casey, who is going to the show, said.
A few blocks away, at Inter & Co. Stadium, Orlando City was winning its playoff game in a very exciting way.
“Now it’s win or go home.” “People are pumped up, and we’re excited,” said Omar Hernandez, who lives in Orlando.
The shooting that left two people dead and nine others hurt happened just one weekend before these events. The shooting happened in downtown Orlando while a lot of people were enjoying Halloween.
“I feel bad for the child’s family. You know what happened, adult.” We pray for them and their family. “May God bless you,” Hernandez said.
“It’s not lucky if you feel bad about losing someone you care about,” Durazo said. “That stinks.”
Orange Avenue and some side streets will be open to cars at night starting next week. To keep people on the sidewalks, barriers will be put up next week.
“I know there are a lot of businesses downtown that depend on nightlife and people walking by.” No money was made, but Hernandez said, “At the end of the day, safety and people’s lives are number one.”
Different steps have been taken by the city in the past, such as a curfew and a ban on new bars and clubs starting.
“Stupid people will do what they’re going to do.” It doesn’t matter if you block the road or not. “You just need to be careful and stay out of the way,” said JC, who lives in Orlando.
“I don’t blame them; they need to do something.” I know a lot of people are mad and have different ideas, but we can’t keep having this in the City of Orlando. You already know. It’s really sad that things keep going like this. “That’s sad, but I think we can make things better,” Hernandez said.
Even though there was a shooting, many people who come downtown say they feel safe. Additionally, they want people to work with the police to stop another terrible event.
These changes will take place in downtown on November 15.
