In Florida – An horrifying event that shocked people in Florida left a 26-year-old mother, E. Thelus, facing serious legal consequences after setting her 8-month-old son on fire in a desperate act that killed him and hurt her 2-year-old child.
The mother is being charged with murder and attempted murder for what happened that terrible night.
Around 6:30 p.m. on August 26, officers were sent to a house because there were reports of a fire. When they got there, they saw that Thelus and her two young children were in terrible flames.
More than half of Thelus’s body was burned, and 80 to 90% of her 8-month-old son D. Joseph’s body was burned as well. Even though the 2-year-old boy was burned, his injuries were not as bad as his younger brother’s.
As paramedics rushed the family to the hospital, they gave them instant medical care. Even though they tried, Joseph needed to be resuscitated while being transported.
He fought for two months in the hospital but finally died on October 25 from his injuries. Thelus was put on a breathing tube and is still at the hospital, where the 2-year-old boy is expected to fully recover.
Investigations showed a scary chain of events that led up to the tragedy.
Thelus bought fuel, a gas can, and a lighter earlier that same day at a nearby gas station. Detectives found out that just before the fire, Thelus tried to leave her 2-year-old son with a man she said was his father, saying she was moving to Ft.
Lauderdale with Joseph and couldn’t take care of the bigger child because she felt “humiliated.”
But her plan went in a bad direction. Thelus went back home after being turned down by the supposed father, who wanted a DNA test.
Her friend says she then took both of the kids outside. Soon after, screams let everyone inside know what was going on outside.
When a neighbor’s daughter went outside to get rid of trash, she saw the fire burning Thelus and the children and yelled for help, “She’s killing the kids!” “All of them are on fire!”
People in the neighborhood rushed to help and put out the fire with towels. When her roommate asked her why she started the fire in the middle of all the chaos, Thelus is said to have said it was because she felt “too much humiliation.
” People in the neighborhood are still in shock over how bad things have become. The gas station clerk had sold Thelus the items used in the crime without knowing it.
She felt terrible about it and told local media, “I kind of have PTSD because I feel bad, and it happened in my store.” My store offered everything.
Thelus has a court date on November 12 because she is being charged with very serious crimes. The 2-year-old who is still alive is on the road to recovery and should fully heal from his wounds, but the psychological scars of that night may last much longer.
This terrible case has not only broken up a family, but it has also had a huge impact on the community. It is a sad reminder of how far people will go to avoid facing their problems when they feel overwhelmed or ashamed.
As the case goes on in court, many people are hoping that the young victims will get justice and that the circumstances that led to such a heartbreaking result will be fully looked into.
