At the Crystal Springs PAL Finals on Saturday, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams beat everyone else. They came in first and third, respectively, and will now compete in the CCS finals.
It’s crazy that the boys’ team won by 21 points. Junior Cason Mitchell ran the 2.95-mile run in 15:51 and came in first. With a time of 16:01, senior Thomas Bernadicou came in third, giving M-A two spots on the podium.
The team has been winning for a long time and is known for setting course records and always coming in first. Junior Dane Hansen came in seventh, not far behind.
“Based on the times we set, this is the third-fastest M-A team time in school history, which is pretty crazy since M-A has been running this course since the 1970s.
This year, one of our main goals was to win the league, which would make it three straight league wins for us. Mitchell said, “Our team looks great, and we can’t wait to see how we do at CCS next weekend.”
The girls’ team came in third, just behind Calmont and Mills. Sixteen-year-old Caroline Pflaum finished eighth out of 98 runners. Both teams will play again at CCS on Saturday, November 16, a week from now.
“The course at Crystal Springs is hard, but our team did well.” “Getting into CCS is always exciting, and we can’t wait to race again on Saturday,” Pflaum said.
“I think we really knew what we needed to do as a team to move forward, and we did that on the course.” At the end of the day, we need to use our skills to work as a team, said freshman Harper Krefetz.
