Thom Yorke, lead singer of the band Radiohead, fought back against an anti-Israel troll who came up to him during a solo show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, Australia, on Wednesday.
A video of the event that was uploaded to YouTube shows a man in the crowd yelling at Yorke while the other people in the room looked on with disapproval.
The person who yelled at the singer was told by the BBC to “condemn the Israeli genocide of Gaza.”
In response, Yorke told the protester to come up on stage. He told her, “Come up here and say that.” “Right now.”
As the crowd cheered, he told the protester, “Get up on the f—ing stage and say what you want to say.”
“Don’t be afraid there. Say it here. You want to ruin everyone’s night? “Come on,” he said.
When the man didn’t help Yorke out as he had asked, the singer said, “Okay, you do.” After that, see you later.” Then Yorke took off his guitar and stormed off the stage, which made the crowd boo.
The protester was taken away by security, and Yorke later came back to cheers from the crowd and played Radiohead’s hit song “Karma Police” from 1997.
“The anti-Israel heckler “did not have backing” from the people in the crowd, a concertgoer told the BBC.
“He was led away by security.” Elly Brus told the BBC that he then kept talking to people outside the place as well.
