It’s coming back to Downtown San Jose for Christmas in the Park, but the people who put it together are worried about its future.
After 44 years, the event’s main sponsors have dropped out, leaving the charity group in charge of it $10,000 short for next year’s event.
“Three big donors who had been with us for years have suddenly stopped giving, and it wasn’t their fault.” It’s not helping them either that the economy is bad, said Debbie Degutis, who runs Christmas in the Park.
Since there wasn’t enough money, Degutis said it would be harder to make changes next Christmas season.
“We won’t be able to renovate our displays or bring back all our staff, and we may have to cancel some of our events, like accessible Sunday,” she added.
The group said it hopes that the nearly 700,000 visitors who are planning to come to the event this year will give some money or buy a ticket to the History Park drive-thru light show. This show will help raise money for Christmas in the Park in 2025.
