A storm that might happen later this week in the Caribbean is being watched by the National Storm Center. Hurricane season lasts for a little more than a month more.
The NHC says that a big area of low pressure will most likely form over the southwestern Caribbean Sea in a few days. They say it might get weaker over time after that, and a tropical depression might form over the weekend.
The NHC says there are very, very few chances that growth will happen in the next 48 hours. If you look ahead seven days, however, it has a 40% chance of happening.
The NHC says this formation is most likely to happen as the storm moves north or northeast over the southwestern and south-central Caribbean Sea.
We don’t think Florida is in danger yet, but it’s too early to say for sure what this system will do or how strong it will be. Model data should not be trusted yet because it is still early.
The Euro model shows that the storm stays very weak. The GFS model, on the other hand, shows that it gets stronger quickly before moving over Hispaniola and toward the Atlantic.
Don’t stress out right now. The First Warning Weather team on WESH 2 knows what’s going on and will show you every day.
