The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams won the CCS Div. 1 title on November 16 in Belmont, California. In the end, junior Ryan Chen came in first place. Chen said, “Today we only had one goal: to beat Bellarmine and win.”
There were five boys in the top 20 and all six boys in the top 30 on the boys’ team. Yuval Goldberg, a sophomore, Rowan Gentin, a junior, Deven Koppala, and Kiran Haywood, a senior, came in second, sixth, 12th, and 13th, in that order.
Chen said that he couldn’t have done it without his friends, even though he won. Chen told them, “If you trust your teammates, you don’t need to worry about them.”
By one minute and forty seconds, the girls’ team beat Evergreen Valley High School, which came in second.
Senior Maya Eisenberg said, “It’s really amazing to see how all of our hard work comes together and pays off in the end.”
The girls’ team had four runners in the top ten. Eisenberg came in third, Shira Kafka, a sophomore, came in sixth, Cassidy Misuraca, a junior, came in seventh, and Ada Bielinska, a sophomore, came in ninth.
For the team to go to states, both teams had to win their classes. The states will be held on November 30 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
For the whole season, Eisenberg said, “our goal has been to win CCS and then do well at states.” “I’m really proud of everyone.”
